Royal Family News: Prince William Denounces Space Tourism

Peince WilliamBritish royal family news shows that Trekkie William Shatner was among the latest crew of space cowboys beamed up to the atmospheric limits. Space tourism is a thing, exciting and unprecedented but wouldn’t you know there’s a sour apple in every bunch. In this case Prince William is pouring cold water on the whole adventure, let’s find out why he isn’t signing up to take flight anytime soon.

Prince William is about to deliver some of his Earthshot Prizes to people saving the planet, and he’s taking a moment beforehand to back hand the history making adventurers.

Prince William Wants To Stay Earthbound

“We need some of the world’s greatest brains and minds fixed on trying to repair this planet, not trying to find the next place to go and live,” Prince William said in a new BBC interview. He’s talking about earthly billionaires Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Richard Branson launching themselves into space in pricey contraptions. Much like the Wright brothers did—where would we be without their entrepreneurism? We would be sitting at home in our Lazy-Boys or taking the train.

He added, “I think that ultimately is what sold it for me — that really is quite crucial to be focusing on this [planet] rather than giving up and heading out into space to try and think of solutions for the future.”

Is Prince William Wrong?

Prince William’s opinion aired hours after Shatner took a 10-minute trip to space on Bezos’ Blue Origin vehicle, New Shepard. Is William so fuddy duddy he thinks innovation and invention are overrated?

Shatner said, “Everybody in the world needs to do this,” after he returned to earth in Texas on Wednesday. Is there anyone who was not cheering for 90-year old Captain Kirk and his enthusiastic history making jaunt? William, apparently. C’mon Wills, lighten up.

Prince William Is A Stay On Earth Kind Of Guy

Prince William said he has, “absolutely no interest,” in going to space and questioned the carbon cost of flights to space, according to the BBC.

This weekend he will dole out the first Earthshot Awards, given to five individuals or teams with ideas to save the planet. Their reward? A cool $1 million dollars.

The Earthshot Prize is based on the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy’s moonshot challenge. Every year William will give five winners $1 million until 2030 with the aim of finding, “at least 50 solutions to the world’s greatest environmental problems.” There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s commendable. But so is the insight and cajones to look past current dilemmas for out of this world solutions.

So you're ok with our future generations suffering so rich old people can have a 10 minute jolly!!! William didn't have to speak up, I'm sure his future generations will be saved if they find a planet to relocate to. He is thinking of the poor and many minorities who won't probably be as fortunate should such a situation occur.

I think Williams is completely right. Many of us are working hard to reduce our footprint and help the environment. How many of us do things like walk, cycle or use public transportation instead of frivolously using our car. We do this to try to help the future generations. We can't all be shipped to Mars if our world becomes uninhabitable. I applaud William for makig this statement because in his position he would probably be one of the first to be given safe passage but he is thinking of us who wouldn't be so lucky. How much has that 10 minute selfish jaunt cost us, set us back, those who are marking sacrifices for the likes of selfish people like Shantner who are relying on the sacrifice of others to try to give humanity a future. Completely selfish, bravo William for pointing this situation out.
