Royal Family news reveals The Duke of Cambridge carried on with his royal duties by honoring an important birthday of the National Health Service, as wife Kate continues isolating for health reasons. The royal dad-of-three may not be with his planned co-host Kate Middleton, but he was a gracious host and handled the intricacies of a royal tea party wonderfully.
Kate Middleton Misses Planned Event To Celebrate The U.K.’s NHS Service
It’s been seven decades and three years since the widely famous U.K.’s National Health Service was born. To celebrate the feat, especially since the staff worked tremendously throughout the hard past year, the Cambridges decided to throw a tea party on Monday.
The Duchess of Cambridge started self-isolating after attending the Wimbledon tournament on Friday, as she came in contact with someone who later tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Even though Kate is fully vaccinated, she is still following government protocols and has gone into quarantine alone.
William attended the event solo after Kate dropped out following the news that she had been in contact with someone who later tested positive for the coronavirus.
“Last week, The Duchess of Cambridge came into contact with someone who has subsequently tested positive for COVID-19,” a spokesperson for the palace said in a statement on Monday. “Her Royal Highness is not experiencing any symptoms, but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home.”
The announcement came on the heels of the Duke and Duchess’ plans to attend a special service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on Monday morning in honor of the National Health Service’s birthday, which William later attended on his own.
After that, he carried on and hosted the tea party at Buckingham Palace to honor health workers, who continued their work even as a pandemic threatened their own safety.
The “Big Tea” is just one of many that are taking place in homes, hospitals, schools and community areas around the country on Monday, as a means of acknowledging the tremendous work done by the NHS and likewise thanking them for it.
The palace party was previously supposed to be hosted by Prince William and Kate as a way of paying tribute to the NHS staff who worked hard all through the pandemic.
William moved forward with their plans with Kate in isolation, and met with respiratory ward nurses, counselors, and care workers, along with staffers in non-clinical units, including catering managers and housekeeping coordinators amongst others.
In December 2020, William and Kate became Joint Patrons of the NHS Charities Together, an organization which is made up of 249 NHS member charities based within hospitals, mental health trusts, ambulance trusts, community health trusts and health boards across the U.K.
