William performed almost twice as many engagements as the next busiest royal, his uncle Prince Edward, who completed 54.

Despite the variance in numbers, both men went to events on 34 days, proving that William is quite the multi-tasker! In third place was Prince Charles (32) and in fourth place was Princess Anne (27).

William’s workload includes making back-to-back telephone calls to NHS staff in the same morning or afternoon as making in person visits essential workers.

According to Kensington Palace the calls are listed individually in the Court Circular and should be counted as a separate engagement.

There is always a naysayer in the group, and here it is Patricia Treble, a Canadian royal expert. After looking at the available data, she claims that that even if every call is counted as one engagement it would still result in an 11 per cent rise for William, putting him in third place behind Edward and Charles. And here we thought math didn’t lie?

She said, “Yes, this marks the first time he’s snagged that top spot. But some may consider applying an asterisk to his placement. It needs explaining, given they account for so many of William’s engagements in the first quarter.”

Overall, William, his wife Kate and uncle Edward have all increased their duties compared with the same period last year. Meanwhile, the Queen and all other Royal Family members have decreased their engagements due to the pandemic.

This means that the Queen has had 32 duties in the first quarter, compared with 48 last year, 67 in 2019, 78 in 2018, and 63 in 2017.

No matter how you slice the dice, William has upped his game and that is commendable particularly in a year that has seen him duck for cover from bombshells lobbed by his own brother Prince Harry. What has Prince Harry done lately? According to his PR team’s loud boasting, he now has two jobs. But the latest pic shows him frolicking on the beach, so the title of hardest working royal seems out of his reach, not that it was ever in his grasp to begin with.
