Royal Family News: Prince William Honors His Trailblazing Female Polo Teacher

Prince WilliamBritish royal family news shows that Prince William experienced a bittersweet moment when he made it a point to honor his late polo teacher. Claire Tomlinson was the woman who taught both Prince William and Prince Harry to become accomplished polo players when they took childhood lessons at Beaufort Polo Club in Gloucestershire.

People magazine described Tomlinson as a, “trailblazing woman who played a large part,” in William’s childhood by igniting his love of sports. She died at age 77 on Jan. 13 after a battle with dementia.

The Daily Mail photographed Prince William outside St. Mary’s Church in Tetbury as he attended the service for his former teacher. He was bundled against the cold weather in a black suit and tie and a long coat. The funeral was attended by roughly 200 people.

Tomlinson was supremely capable of teaching the young princes the sport of polo as she was a former England national team captain and coach. Additionally she had the distinction of being the first woman to compete against top level male athletes in the field. Back in the day Tomlinson fought for and won the right to participate in male dominated matches and to this day is the women’s high-goal handicap record owner.

Royal Family News – William Attended A Funeral For A Former Teacher

Prince William’s affection for Tomlinson was evident as he kept her in the loop of his life’s activities. She was in attendance at some of his polo matches, and had a spot of honor on the sidelines beside his father Prince Charles and his wife Kate Middleton when she was present.

In addition, William had close relationship with Tomlinson’s sons, Luke and Mark and their close ties earned them an invite to William and Kate’s wedding in 2011.

Prince William takes after his father in the polo skills department and he has participated charity matches. In 2019 Kate and William’s three children were photographed having a blast watching their dad in a charity tournament. Kate kept a watchful eye on her brood, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis and made the match a fun family event.

This year Kate and William will make a trip to America to award the second round of Earthshot Awards but there is no word yet if it will be a family affair.
