British royal family news reveals that Prince William, Duke Of Cambridge has a reputation for selecting beautiful and thoughtful gifts for his wife, Kate Middleton. Oftentimes he chooses to gift her with jewelry, and what girl doesn’t love a pretty bauble or three?

After Prince George was born she was given an eternity ring he hand picked. For their first Christmas as newlyweds she received green amethyst earrings.

It is said that this Christmas he gifted Kate with a pair of sapphire earrings this Christmas, and it’s not the only time he has chosen the stone for her.

It’s been reported that on their third wedding anniversary, William selected a Cartier Ballon Bleu watch for Kate. His mother the late Princess Diana, held the Cartier Tank Français watch as one of her favorites. Some royal experts have said he inherited the watch after she died.

Back to the Ballon Bleu watch he chose for Kate, he added his own special touch to the watch. William decided to add a small sapphire to the frame of the dial.

Why does William seem to favor the stone? Perhaps because it is the centerpiece of Kate’s iconic engagement ring. That ring was gifted to Diana as an engagement ring by William’s father, Prince Charles.

When the time came, William presented the family heirloom to Kate.

Sapphire is a precious gemstone and most people think of it with its traditional blue hue. However, the gemstone can also form in a wide range of colors including yellow, purple, orange, and green colors. There are even sapphires sold having two distinct colors.

In fact, the ruby and sapphire are one and the same gemstone. Both are corundum stones but in different colors. Sapphires are nearly as hard as diamonds which make them a popular choice for everyday jewelry.

Sapphire is the traditional birthstone for the month of September and it is considered the gem of the 45th anniversary.

William and Kate are set to celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary this year. Which means William has just 35 years to go before he can gift Kate with a sapphire anniversary ring!
