The sitch may look dire, but royal expert Robert Lacey writes in People that Prince William has the power of saving grace within his privileged hands.
According to him, Prince William is, “paving the way forward,” into the light after Andrew and Harry torpedoed the monarchy into a period of abject darkness.
Royal Family News – William Can Heal The Family
Lacey wrote Battle of Brothers, and this week provides his unique insights on the monarchy, the Queen’s legacy and how William and Kate will redeem the institution.
“Following the April death of Grandpa [Prince] Philip, William has stepped up to become one of the top three family figures, adding the ginger of youth to royal strategy,” Lacey writes in People. “It’s a crucial inflection point — this heir-in-waiting is under pressure like none before in recent history.”
The pressure and spotlight have been on Prince William for years. His late mother Princess Diana said publicly that he should, “become king over his father in her 1995 BBC Panorama interview.” At the time he was still in high school but now William is on an almost equal footing with Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles.
His leadership has grown in part due to Hollyweird Harry’s defection from the monarchy. He and wife Meghan are now in California and lapping up the limelight like crazy. Prince Andrew has also created a leadership vacuum as he is embroiled in the middle of a messy sexual assault lawsuit.
Royal Family News – Prince William Can Save The Monarchy?
Lacey noted that Prince William has a popularity poll rating of 80% popularity, second to the Queen’s 85%. William has the confidence of the public and that speaks volumes. Despite his tenuous position he has not played it safe and that has seemed to endear him even more.
William recently spoke out about the BBC, “after an investigation found that Martin Bashir used deceit, such as falsifying documents, to obtain his 1995 interview with Diana.”
William said, “The BBC’s failures contributed significantly to her fear, paranoia and isolation that I remember from those final years with her.”
Lacey sums up his opinion of the current state of the monarchy thusly: “The British throne has survived beheading, exile and enough scandal to stock entire libraries. Now a new leader — William, not Charles — is paving the way forward.”

William has a pooper scooper with Harry's name on it. Enough said.
