Royal Family News – William Is A Poster Child For The Monarchy

Today William and Kate the Duchess of Cambridge is perceived as hard-working, committed royals; in 2021, the Prince undertook 110 engagements and 106 working days.

Yet, as late as 2016, he was seen as “workshy.” A year later the Daily Mail, “criticized the future king for missing a Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey to continue a weekend skiing in Verbier.” That type of slacking seems unthinkable now.

It was also reported that, “one source told the royal editor at The Mail on Sunday that William wanted to live the life of a gentleman farmer.” William addressed these slights five years ago in interviews for the Queen’s 90th birthday. He told the BBC, “I take duty very seriously. I take my responsibilities very seriously. But it’s about finding your own way at the right time, and if you’re not careful duty can weigh you down at a very early age. I think you have got to develop into a duty role.”

Royal Family News – William Has A Good Head On His Shoulders

When he spoke, Megxit was a just twinkle in a game show girl’s eye. And Prince Andrew did not yet have the word ‘disgraced’ permanently affixed to his name. Since then a lot has changed and William has had to step up perhaps sooner and more urgently than anyone would have imagined.

At the time he said he often thought about, “what kind of king he wanted to be, but that it wouldn’t be his priority for 20 years or more. He added that the royal family were supportive of his level of responsibility giving him the, “time and space to explore another means of doing a worthwhile job.” Kudos to William for meeting life’s unexpected challenges.
