Royal Family News: Prince William Personally Recognizes Oxford University Coronavirus Vaccine Team

British royal family news reveals that the UK’s Prince William has taken time to recognize the makers of the Oxford University Covid-19 vaccine. His praise came during a personal phone call this week, in which he commended the researchers.

In the call, the Duke of Cambridge told the team, “Well done, I’m so pleased for all of you. I really am. I saw it in everyone’s faces back in June how much time and effort was going into this, and I could see that there was a lot of pressure on everyone, so I’m so thrilled that you’ve cracked it – so really well done.”

Prince William Has Praised The Team Behind The Oxford University Coronavirus Vaccine

Earlier this month the news leaked that the duke contracted the virus in April. Since then neither he nor the palace has confirmed nor denied the information. It was reported that William told the news to an individual at an event, and the person then shared what they heard.

It was reported that William said he did not disclose the news earlier because he did not want to worry the country. At the time it was dealing with his father, Prince Charles’ positive COVID diagnosis as well as that of Prince Minister Boris Johnson.

The news was met with mixed reaction. Some felt it was dishonest and not transparent for the palace to have disclosed the alleged diagnosis sooner, while others respected the prince’s perspective.

Prince William Took The Time To Congratulate The Makers Of A COVID Vaccine

The University of Oxford, along with drugmaker AstraZeneca plc, says that interim trial data from its Phase III trials shows its vaccine (ChAdOx1 nCoV-2019) is effective at preventing COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) and offers a high level of protection against the virus.

According to Professor Andrew Pollard, who is the director of the Oxford Vaccine Group and Chief Investigator of the Oxford Vaccine Trial, “These findings show that we have an effective vaccine that will save many lives.
“Excitingly, we’ve found that one of our dosing regimens may be around 90% effective and if this dosing regimen is used, more people could be vaccinated with planned vaccine supply.”

There Is Good News About A Possible COVID Vaccine

Additionally, Sarah Gilbert, Professor of Vaccinology at the University of Oxford said, “The announcement today takes us another step closer to the time when we can use vaccines to bring an end to the devastation caused by SARS-CoV-2. We will continue to work to provide the detailed information to regulators. It has been a privilege to be part of this multi-national effort which will reap benefits for the whole world.”
