Royal Family News: Prince William Supports Queen Elizabeth’s Decision About Camilla

British royal family news shows that Queen Elizabeth issued a bold, historic statement on the 70th anniversary of her ascension to the throne, and it involved another woman and her status as a future UK queen. On Saturday Her Majesty spoke out in favor of Prince Charles’ second wife Camilla being given the title of Queen Consort. Up until her announcement, it was thought that Camilla would be known as Princess Consort.

It’s now been reported that her grandson William, the Duke of Cambridge and a future king himself, is “supportive” of Queen Elizabeth’s desire to make Camilla a queen.

Camilla’s role in the monarchy has long been mired in controversy owing to the perception that she played a part in the ruination of Charles’ first marriage to the late Princess Diana. Diana’s popularity is reflected in her nickname, The People’s Princess.

According to one source, her presence in Charles’ life, “was not an easy relationship at first – or indeed for a number of years after her marriage to his father – the second in line to the throne is pragmatic about Camilla’s role in his father’s life and, now, the future of the monarchy.”

Another source indicated that while William was not part of the decision-making process, he and Charles would have discussed the matter and he presumably given his blessing. “None of this can have been easy for him,” according to one insider. “There were huge family rows in the early stages of Charles and Camilla’s marriage as everyone found their feet. William didn’t have the best relationship with his father back then.”

The source added, “But he sees that Camilla had made his father happy and it is something he has come to terms with.”

It’s been disclosed since that Prince Charles changed his coronation vows several years ago to include ‘Queen Camilla’ – with his mother’s blessing. The title was, “part of a general reworking of plans for the Westminster Abbey ceremony up to five years ago, a senior palace source said.”

It has also been revealed that the Queen Mother’s priceless platinum and diamond crown will be set upon Camilla’s head when Charles is made king. The opulent headpiece was created for King George VI’s coronation in 1937.
