British royal family news divulges that today the monarchy is embroiled in yet another scandal even as it looked to end the year on a high note with the visit of Prince William and Princess Kate to America. Back home at Buckingham Palace, William’s godmother Lady Susan Hussey, has resigned after being accused of racist rhetoric. A royal source told the Mirror that Hussey, the Queen’s most senior Lady in Waiting, resigned from her honorary role.

A spokesman for the Prince of Wales said it was “disappointing” to hear of an experience of one guest at Buckingham Palace, a guest who complained about Hussey’s question of her background. William’s spokesman added, “Racism has no place in our society, these comments were unacceptable and it’s right that the individual concerned has stepped down.”
Prince William’s godmother, “was accused of racism,” at a reception set up by Queen Consort Camilla. According to the Daily Mail, Hussey, “quit after she allegedly refused to believe a black domestic abuse campaigner was British and asked her: ‘What part of Africa are you from?’”

Lady Hussey’s godson Prince William arrives in the US today with his wife Kate, Princess of Wales, for a three-day visit during which he will hand out the second round of his prestigious Earthshot prizes. He will inevitably be asked about Hussey’s behavior back home.
Ngozi Fulani is the director of the charity Sistah Space and she told the Mirror that she was shocked by Hussey’s questioning of her. ‘It was prolonged racism. It was like an interrogation. This wasn’t just a few seconds, it was concerted over several minutes. It felt, as three black women, that we were trespassers, that we were not welcome or accepted as British.’”

The outlet reported that Buckingham Palace said it took the incident, “extremely seriously” and launched an immediate investigation.
A spokesman said, “In this instance, unacceptable and deeply regrettable comments have been made. We have reached out to Ngozi Fulani on this matter, and are inviting her to discuss all elements of her experience in person if she wishes. In the meantime, the individual concerned would like to express her profound apologies for the hurt caused and has stepped aside from her honorary role with immediate effect. All members of the Household are being reminded of the diversity and inclusivity policies which they are required to uphold at all times.”

Fulani tweeted today that she had been “insulted” when Hussey asked her where she was from.
“Fulani claims she then said: ‘Lady! I am a British national, my parents came here in the 50s.” she added that the rest of the visit from that point on was a “blur.”
