Spencer told director-general, Tim Davie, that Bashir showed him false bank statements which falsely showed that two senior courtiers were being paid by the security services for intel on Diana, in an attempt to meet with the princess.

Spencer is accusing the BBC of shirking its responsibility in the fraud and wants them to accept the “full gravity of the situation.” To this end, he has demanded that the news organization open a formal inquiry into the case.
He wants an apology from the BBC to himself, his sister, and the viewing public for Bashir’s deceit.

Princess Diana Gave An Infamous Interview On The State Of Her Personal Life To The BBC 25 Years Ago

Bashir’s interview with Diana was astonishing, to say the least as she dropped sensational tidbits such as saying, “there were three people in the marriage,” alluding to her husband’s mistress (now his wife) Camilla Parker Bowles.

After Spencer’s accusations that the BBC obtained the interview under a false pretense, Davie issued an apology last week. But Spencer took exception to him saying the bank statements were irrelevant. In an email he claimed, “If it were not for me seeing these statements, I would not have introduced Bashir to my sister.”

Bashir has also been accused of playing on Diana’s fears that her conversations were bugged by the secret services to gain her acquaintance.

Bashir contacted Spencer three months before the interview and Spencer arranged a meeting for Bashir with himself and Diana in 1995, with the interview occurring later that same year.
