Royal Family News – Prince Harry Should be Protected

Royal Family news reveals that Princess Diana’s former bodyguard has been speaking to the press while promoting his new book. Protecting Diana: A Bodyguard’s Story. In the process, according to Cosmopolitan Magazine, he’s been asked to weigh in on Harry’s legal row about protection for his family when they visit the United Kingdom.

As an individual who has plenty of experience protecting members of the Royal Family, bodyguard Lee Sansum reportedly doesn’t believe the prince’s request to be unreasonable. The 60-year-old former bodyguard told US Weekly, “I don’t know what the stumbling block is there … I totally get it when he is back in the U.K.,” adding, “He should have protection. I don’t get why he isn’t given it.”

Was Princess Diana Refused Protection?

Sansum began his career as a Royal bodyguard when Diana divorced Prince Charles. He was assigned to the security team of Diana’s boyfriend at the time, Dodi al-Fayed. Commenting on the fact that Diana didn’t actually have protection at the time, Sansum said he wasn’t sure if she had refused Royal protection or if she had been refused it.

“A lot of people say she didn’t want it. People are saying that she couldn’t have it — I don’t really know. I can’t comment on that,” the former bodyguard said, adding that the team he was on at the time was one of the best security teams he’d ever worked with “so she just happened to get security.”

The Danger Diana Faced

Sansum emphasized that Diana definitely needed security following her divorce from the Prince of Wales because just being related to working Royals could be a risk factor.

“She was the mother of the heir to our throne and you could just think … sometimes I contemplate what would’ve happened. Say she’d have been kidnapped or say something would’ve happened to her …which quite easily happened to her,” Sansum said, adding, “It was a difficult situation all around, but we had two policemen with us from the British police. [I would say] ‘Look at the guys around you — we’ll protect you. Nothing can happen to you.’ I was just trying to calm her down and it had a calming effect on her.”
