The UK is littered with regional accents and Her Majesty speaks what is known as ‘the Queen’s English.’ This accent is characterized by its, “Received Pronunciation as well as grammatically correct utterances that are free of slang,” according to Goodto.Com. Would we expect anything less of Liz?
The Queen’s English Is Rich Indeed
Suffice it to say that the queen does not curse nor use slang in public and what she does in the privacy of her own castle is her business. The 95-year old monarch is set to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee next year, an event marking 70 years on the throne.
The clip making the rounds is from the monarch’s 80th birthday in which she sat for a portrait session. In it her posh accent goes MIA and in its place is a decidedly “cockney” twang. The video was shared by TikTok user Arksteriff and it has since gained over two million views.

Queen Elizabeth Mostly Speaks Proper English
In it the Queen is asked if she minds getting old. We think she should have slapped the questioner, but maybe speaking slang is her way of putting him in his place? At any rate her answer is labeled ‘cockney’ and the nation is finding it hilarious.
When asked that very impertinent question, Her Majesty replied, “nah!” and apparently that is enough to get the UK in stitches. It is said they have a wry sense of humor so there is that ….
The queen goes on to reveal her fun sense of humor by saying that she, “sees herself aging,” whenever she has a portrait done.

Her Majesty quickly regained her composure however, perhaps sensitive to appearing too at ease. She added, in her standard pronunciation, “Not really…I’m used to it now.”
Overall the fans seemed to approve of her letting her hair down. One fan wrote, “She forgot she was the Queen for a second,” and a third posted, “That’s the most relatable I’ve ever seen her.”
