Royal Family News – The Queen Delegates

Now the question on everyone’s lips is, will the queen be at the parade itself? The Sunday Times reports that she, “still hopes to attend some of the ceremony, which kicks off four days of celebration to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.”

The 96-year-old monarch began to exhibit signs of her current health issues late last fall when she was admitted for an overnight hospital stay. The palace did not divulge details at the time but since then the queen has been plagued by, “episodic mobility problems.”

Her parade hand-off is the latest in a series of both minor and high profile absences from scheduled royal events. Earlier this month, the queen missed the State Opening of Parliament for the first time in 59 years. She entrusted her heirs, son Prince Charles and grandson Prince William, to act at the event on her behalf.

But while her absences have gotten the lion’s share of the spotlight, the queen has attended several public outings just this month. These include the Windsor Horse Show, star-studded Platinum Jubilee celebrations in Windsor and the opening of the Elizabeth Tube line.

How will the queen’s absence be addressed at the parade? According to one outlet, one option entails Her Majesty travelling by carriage from Buckingham Palace to inspect the troops before appearing on the balcony. Secondly, she may only appear on the balcony after the duration of the ceremony.

What is known is who will not be on the balcony with her: disgraced royals Andrew, Harry and Meghan. The queen made the stunning announcement this month, and the following royals are expected to be seen instead: Charles and Camilla; William and Kate with George, Charlotte and Louis; Edward and Sophie and their children Louise and James; Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence; the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester; the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra.
