Royal Family News: Queen Elizabeth Has Accepted That Christmas Will Not Be The Same This Year

The Queen usually hosts a plethora of holiday traditions that royal fans look forward to. This includes Christmas Day and the lead up to it. But this year with the pandemic restrictions and Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their son Archie in California the holidays will be very different.

Queen Elizabeth Is Keeping A Stiff Upper Lip About The Year’s Restricted Holiday Period

According to historian Robert Lacey, “She is accepting of it. Christmas is something Queen Elizabeth has always done with enormous, genuine family style, and is facing not doing so sadly,” said Lacey, the author of the royal biography Battle of Brothers.

At this time the Queen is said to be waiting to find out exactly what type of family events are possible as the U.K. government is announcing updated protocols as the current lockdown in England wears on. But royal fans are already aware that she had to cancel the yearly glitzy reception for diplomats and embassy staffers who are typically entertained at Buckingham Palace in early December.

In addition to that cancellation, her holiday party for her family which is held at the palace later in the month has also been terminated.

So, what will the royal family be able to do to celebrate the holidays in 2020? Their exact plans have yet to be confirmed as everyone is awaiting the latest government guidelines.

For her part, the Queen and her husband Prince Philip are currently living in Windsor Castle, and they have not announced whether they will stay in Windsor this year or head to their Sandringham estate in Norfolk. It is there that every year that the royals gather for fun and merriment on up to the New Year’s holiday. But if she does decide to make her way to Sandringham, her grandson and heir to the throne Prince William and Kate Middleton could be close by if they choose to stay at their country home, Anmer Hall in Norfolk.

It is certain that Harry and Meghan will not join the rest of the royals this year as much has been made of their plans to host their first American Christmas in the mansion they bought this summer. They will reportedly hole up in Montecito, California, with Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland.
