Royal Family News – Queen Elizabeth Is 95 Years Old
On Saturday she hosted a reception at Sandringham House on the eve of her Accession Day, which marked the 70th anniversary of her becoming Queen. She was crowned at the age of 25 after the untimely death of her father.
At the special event the queen was met with representatives from local charities and members of the Sandringham Estate. She was asked to cut a special cake that was decorated for the Platinum Jubilee and she was given several gifts, including a project created by local school children. During the event she held onto a cane that had been her late husband’s.
Queen Elizabeth Uses Philip’s Cane
Prince Philip died last April at the age of 99. He was hospitalized in March and when he passed away at Windsor Castle he was surrounded by his loved ones.
Prince Philip’s biographer Gyles Brandreth told The Telegraph, “I recognized the stick instantly as it was always kept in a pot by the front door. It was the Duke’s stick, and it is very touching that the Queen has started using it.”
Prince Philip was pictured through the years holding the cane, most notably in 2013 after he had abdominal surgery. He was also seen with it as he walked the grounds of the Sandringham estate in Norfolk.
Royal Family News – The Queen Has A Special Memento
The queen also made news this past weekend when she announced her desire that her daughter-in-law Camilla be given the title of Queen Consort when the time arrives. Camilla is married to the queen’s heir Prince Charles and has courted controversy in the past. The queen’s endorsement is seen as a vote of confidence in Camilla who has managed to turn the tide of public opinion to her side over the years, after being accused of being a home wrecker.
