Royal Family News: Queen Elizabeth Hospitalized Overnight

British royal family news shows that Queen Elizabeth was taken to the hospital for testing after doctors advised she cancel an official event to Northern Ireland. According to reports, royal doctors told the 95-year old monarch to rest instead of traveling which led to the rumor mill igniting with speculation about her health.

She was taken to an undisclosed London hospital on Wednesday. The result of the tests and the nature of the visit were not revealed by the Palace.

But Buckingham Palace confirmed that Her Majesty was hospitalized overnight for the first time in eight years. By Thursday she was back at Windsor Castle in time for lunch. It is thought she will remain there for the remainder of the week.

It is reported that the overnight stay was taken due to an abundance of caution. She was said to be in, “good spirits,” back home and, “reading her official government red boxes,” according to the Daily Mail.

A Buckingham Palace spokesman stated, “Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today, and remains in good spirits.”

Her Majesty Is 95-Years Old

The Queen’s travel cancellation and hospital visit are highly unusual for a woman who has spent nearly seven decades on the throne earing a reputation as a work horse. Since the beginning of the month she has traveled 1,000 miles carrying out official business. In 2020 the Queen carried out 136 engagements in person or via video over a period of 130 days. Princess Anne (148 over 145 days) and Prince Charles (146 over 141 days) were the only other royals to do more.

But just last week she was seen in public with a cane for the first time. Before the cancellation, on Tuesday might she hosted a major summit at Windsor Castle and she looked fit as a fiddle.

Aides say that there are no plans to cancel any more events, including her attendance at the UN climate summit in Glasgow later this month. It is thought that she will hold private meetings at Windsor Castle next week and no public events are scheduled.

Since her summer break at Balmoral the Queen has carried out 15 engagements and visited Ascot.

Joe Little is the managing editor of Majesty magazine and he expects cancellations are now inevitable: “Every now and again there will be this reminder that she is 95 and she can’t do what was expected of her 10, 20 years ago.”
