Royal Family News: Queen Elizabeth Is In The Driver’s Seat For The Royal Windsor Horse Show

British royal family news shows that Queen Elizabeth is gradually acclimating to the world’s new normal, as she has been seen out and about in recent days. Her calendar is full of events and travel and she appears quite happy to be greeting and meeting members of the public.

This week she and her daughter Princess Anne were in Scotland for Royal Week and that has kept them busy. During Royal Week in Scotland she and Anne attended an event at the University of Edinburgh as well as a back to nature scheme.

Royal Family News – The Queen Is Enjoying Her Summer

Yesterday she flew back home to attend the Royal Windsor Horse Show, which is said to be her favorite annual equestrian event. The show took place Friday afternoon and that morning, she was on the grounds, sure not to miss a single minute of the sporty affair.

The queen drove herself to the course in her Range Rover, albeit accompanied by a female friend and security guards.

She was dressed a bit more informally than in the past in a white shirt and gray skirt but was pictured thoroughly enjoying the event that took place on the private grounds of her home. The Royal Windsor Horse Show is in its 77th year and attracts VIPs from all over the world.

Royal Family News – The Queen Was Seen Driving Yesterday

Has the Queen attended every year since the event launched as a wartime fundraiser in 1943? Yes, with the exception of 2020 when the show was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic but was broadcast online.

The event was postponed in 2001 due to an outbreak of foot and mouth disease, and in 2016 one day of the show was postponed due to flooding. Other than that the event has a remarkable record, much like the queen herself who is the world’s longest reigning monarch.

Royal Family News – The Queen Has A Special Connection To The Horse Show

Both the queen and her late husband Philip Duke of Edinburgh have a personal connection to the show. Each competed in it, with Prince Philip entered into the Carriage Driving at Royal Windsor Horse Show for three decades—he won in 1982.

The queen is an enthusiastic horse owner and as such has watched her own horses take part in the showing class competitions. The Royal Windsor Horse Show kicked off on Friday and will conclude on Sunday, July 4.
