Royal Family News – Queen Elizabeth Is Celebrating Her Platinum Jubilee

The Commonwealth of Nations Globe is a brilliant shade of blue and sits inside a silver crown atop a blue and gold cushion. It was specially designed and created for the Beacons project and was placed on the podium by five Yeoman Warders, including Chief Yeoman Warder Peter McGowran.

The beautiful globe represents Her Majesty’s previous Jubilees and features silver, gold, diamonds and platinum. The stones in the Crown signify the coming together of the four nations of the United Kingdom in celebration of the Jubilee. The stones were collected from the top of the four highest peaks in each nation: Mount Snowdon, Wales; Ben Nevis, Scotland; Slieve Donard, Northern Ireland, and Scafell Pike, England.

For the event the queen wore a stunning jade and taupe outfit and despite mobility issues she walked slowly by herself to the centerpiece globe. It was announced earlier today the monarch will miss tomorrow’s service of remembrance at St. Paul’s due to “discomfort” she encountered today.

The ceremony lasted less than 10 minutes. The first beacons were lit in Tonga and Samoa and the final one in Belize. The Tree of Trees is part of the Queen’s Green Canopy project which encourages communities to plant thousands of new trees.
