The event is said to be one of her favorite events of the year. Despite ongoing mobility problems she looked in fine fettle with a ready smile for all.
It was her first public appearance since missing the State Opening of Parliament this week. In her place she sent her direct heirs, Prince William and Charles.
Royal Family News – The Queen Was Briming With Happiness
Her Majesty, 96-years-old, looked the picture of happiness in sunglasses, pink lipstick, white blouse and dark cardigan. She was delighted as she watched Balmoral Leia compete at the show that is the beginning of her official Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The fans clapped and cheered as she arrived in her Range Rover and even rolled down her window to greet fans. She has not missed the event in the past 79 years.
Royal Family News – The Queen Was At A Horse Event
The show was a favorite pastime for both the queen and her late husband Prince Phillip. For many years they both attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show together and crowds were eager to spot the pair. She and Philip were married for 73 years; Prince Philip died last April at the age of 99.
Her Majesty missed the Queen’s Speech on Tuesday on doctor’s orders. She has begun to have difficulty walking or standing for long periods. For a few minutes she chose to stay in the passenger seat of her vehicle while she happily spoke to passers-by and watched horses in the parade ring.
She remained seated for an hour or so then used a cane to slowly walk about 30ft to her seat in the grandstand. She sat between son Prince Edward and Penny Knatchbull, Countess Mountbatten of Burma.
Royal Family News – The Queen Was Cheerful
The monarch’s highland pony won first place and she was handed the trophy in the stands. She smiled broadly when given the cup and looked as if she were thoroughly enjoying herself. While she was there, Her Majesty also watched her granddaughter Lady Louise Windsor, driving the Duke of Edinburgh’s carriage, as she led the Fell Pony Society centenary parade. Louise picked up the hobby from her late grandfather.
Later Queen Elizabeth walked unaided to her Range Rover, cheered on by adoring crowds.
