It must have been painful for The Queen to write her first official letter after her recent loss and Prince Philip’s name sadly didn’t get to be on it.
British Monarch Sympathizes With St. Vincent And The Grenadines
The Queen wrote her first official letter after her husband’s death sympathizing with the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a Commonwealth nation, after they suffered from a series of volcanic eruptions.
While previous statements of this kind typically start with “The Duke of Edinburgh and I”, this was the first written after her husband’s death and Prince Philip’s official title was sadly missing in the message.
“I have been saddened by the destruction and major disruption caused by volcanic eruptions in recent days, and my thoughts are with the many people and families who have been evacuated from their homes, and whose livelihoods have been affected,” the Queen wrote. “I send my thanks to the emergency services and all those involved in the relief effort.”
She ended her statement by telling the people of St. Vincent and the Grenadines that her prayers will remain with them as they try to cope with the difficult times.
The Queen is yet to issue a public statement regarding the death of her long-time husband, that is, apart from a statement released on her behalf announcing his death. Other members of the Royal Family have shared their messages and their regards to the late Duke of Edinburgh, remembering his life and honoring his death.
A day after Prince Philip died, the Queen’s daughter-in-law Sophie, Countess of Wessex, tearfully told people gathered outside Windsor Castle that The Queen “has been amazing.”
Reports revealed that The Queen is coping with her loss and gains strength from her family members who are with her. Being with someone for 73 years and then not getting to see him/her again is sure to shake anyone up, but The Queen is continuing with her duties knowing it would have been what Prince Philip would want for her.
A close royal insider said that the Queen “will never abdicate because duty and honor and public service is so deep in her, as it was for him.” So, here’s to seeing lonely “I”s for a longer time in the future.
Volcanic Eruption At St. Vincent And The Grenadines
The erupting La Soufriere volcano in St. Vincent and the Grenadines has placed the education of almost 33,000 children on hold with no idea on when they can resume. Over 70 of the islands’ 94 primary and secondary schools are among the 89 shelters made for over 4000 residents who were given mandatory relocation from their homes.
It is estimated that between 16-20,000 people are displaced, with many finding temporary relocation on their own.
