According to Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, the 95-year old queen is, “entering a new phase,” of her reign as her health woes continue to mount. This year she lost her husband of 73 years and since then has appeared to have lost a little pep in her step.
Prince Philip died at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle. For most of her life he had been her “rock” and now she is going it alone in a huge and influential public role while also confronting Father Time. She will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in 2022, marking 70 years on the throne. But for now her doctor’s have advised two weeks of light desk duty only, and going forward her work schedule may never again look the same.
Royal Family News – Is The Queen On A New Normal Schedule?
Royal author Penny Junor claims the members of the working royal family will fill in for the Queen at in-person events. She told the Mirror that fans are, “so used to seeing her out and about and looking years younger than she is… there comes a time in everybody’s life when they have to admit that they are getting older and can’t do the things that they perhaps want to do.”
Little echoed these comments saying, “in terms of official engagements before the end of the year, I don’t think we will see her out and about doing anything officially, even if she recovers from the sprained back.”

He added, “There are shades of the time her mother was a similar age and things got progressively more difficult. But the Queen Mother soldiered on and there is no reason to think the Queen won’t, but this is a setback. Clearly there are mobility issues. Getting from Windsor with a sprained back and having to stand for 15 to 20 minutes at the Cenotaph is not helpful for somebody of 95.”

Coronavirus enforced a new normal for the world including the queen, and there may be a second phase of new normal for her in terms of how she interacts with the nation. Junor thinks the fans will, “see more of her on video and probably less of her in the flesh. At the queen’s age, “they should keep her warm and tucked up at home and not exposing herself to the possibility of infections.”
