Royal Family News: Queen Elizabeth Receives a Jubilee Cross By Justin Welby

British royal family news show that recently 96-year old Queen Elizabeth has encountered mobility issues that have prevented her from attending royal events. To get around this she has a beautiful cane and a personalized golf cart.

Today however she was a radiant picture of health as she presented Justin Welby with a special ‘Canterbury Cross.’ And, the woman who just celebrated 70 years as monarch stood unaided after being forced to miss her thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s due to Covid.

Additionally, the Archbishop of Canterbury had been due to take the Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral as part of the Platinum Jubilee weekend, but was forced to decline after with covid.

Today the distinguished pair were able to meet face-to-face at Windsor Castle and he praised her faithful service to the Church of England.

Her Majesty smiled as he gave her a special citation to mark her Platinum Jubilee.

According to the Daily Mail, “Welby gave the Queen a small silver cross, inspired by a 9th century Saxon brooch and incorporating a triquetra pattern, as a ‘heartfelt symbol’ of the church’s ‘love, loyalty and affection.’”

Royal Family News – The Queen Is 96-years Old

When the queen and the archbishop met, they shook hands. The cleric wore purple robes, as he entered the Oak Room in the Berkshire castle.

The cross was presented in a vivid red box and attached to a blue ribbon. It was specially crafted for the queen and had platinum inserts in recognition of her milestone 70 years on the throne. The Queen is Supreme Governor of the Church of England and Defender of the Faith.

The citation for the cross was a framed piece of calligraphy and was presented to the Queen as well as the cross itself.

The citation read, “Throughout her reign, Her Majesty has duly upheld both the Christian religion and the Church of England in her roles as Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England.”

‘Whether in the formality of opening sessions of General Synod or the more intimate context of her personal addresses to the nation and Commonwealth at Christmas, Her Majesty has made manifest her own deep faith and its relevance to all that she undertakes.”

‘Her subtle understanding of the changing position of the Established Church in England has sustained and encouraged laity and clergy alike. Her care for the unity of her people and the welfare of the least fortunate have been a constant inspiration to the whole Church. Hers is an example of the Christian life well led.”
