British royal family news shows that the secretive state of Queen Elizabeth’s health has plunged the nation into a somber mood. She was hospitalized in October and missed three crucial royal events since then, including Remembrance Sunday.
Buckingham Place has not disclosed the reason for her hospitalization but did say she has a “sprained back.”
Her son Edward, the Earl of Wessex, today gave a speech to the Church of England’s national assembly on her behalf, representing a fourth missed public engagement. It was the first time in her 69-year reign that she has not made the address.
Royal Family News – Queen Elizabeth Is Ailing
After missing the Remembrance Sunday service the queen was expected to be at Church House, the Westminster headquarters of the Synod. Instead, the 95-year-old monarch has been advised to rest by medical experts.
She missed the COP26 summit in Glasgow but delivered a video address. In it she asked world leaders to reach firm climate change deals as she warned, “none of us will live forever.”
Today Edward read his mother’s speech to the assembled bishops and clergy. He said praised the institution on his mother’s behalf and said, “It is hard to believe that it is over 50 years since Prince Philip and I attended the very first meeting of the General Synod. None of us can slow the passage of time; and while we often focus on all that has changed in the intervening years, much remains unchanged, including the Gospel of Christ and his teachings.”

What Is Happening To The Queen?
The Queen used her speech to remind the church of its responsibilities in making, “difficult decisions.”
“In some areas, there will, of course, be differing views and my hope is that you will be strengthened with the certainty of the love of God, as you work together and draw on the Church’s tradition of unity in fellowship for the tasks ahead,” she said.
In turn the Archbishop of Canterbury told Edward that the church, “draws great comfort,” from the Queen’s message.
The speech also spoke of the coronavirus pandemic: “Of course, in our richly diverse modern society, the well-being of the nation depends on the contribution of people of all faiths, and of none. But for people of faith, the last few years have been particularly hard, with unprecedented restrictions in accessing the comfort and reassurance of public worship. For many, it has been a time of anxiety, of grief, and of weariness.”
