British royal family news reveals that the monarchy has been beset by one scandal after another in recent months. So it comes as a good sign that there is positive news to report for the queen who celebrates her Platinum Jubilee this summer. Earlier this month one of her Cocker Spaniels won a prestigious prize.

Royal Family News – The Queen Receives Good News

Lissy is a four-year-old Wolferton Drama, and the pup named for the queen won the 91st Kennel Club Cocker Spaniel Championship. The prize-winning pooch beat 38 competitors to land at the top of the heap, and in so doing became the Queen’s first gundog champion in any breed category.

During the competition Lissy was handled by Ian Openshaw from Market Drayton. She was tested on her natural working ability during the round which took place at Windsor Great Park on January the 3rd and 4th. Openshaw said, “Winning the Championship was the greatest day of my life, it is a true honor to handle dogs for Her Majesty and it has been a lifetime ambition to win for the Queen.”

“Lissy has always been a very good dog, excellent at all working elements, and she is particularly fantastic on a runner. She used to be a bit of a monkey when she was younger, but she has really come into her own now. She is a great all-rounder.”

The Queen’s Son Presented An Award

Lissy impressed the five on-site judges who determined she was by far the winner of the 91st Kennel Club Cocker Spaniel Championship. For the award ceremony the event was kept in the family as His Royal Highness, Prince Edward The Earl of Wessex, presented the award to the queen’s dog.

On top of having her pup be top dog, Queen Elizabeth, “was also given a Kennel Club commissioned portrait of her two Field Trial Champion cocker spaniels as thanks for once again hosting the Cocker Spaniel Championship,” according to Country Living.

Kate Broers is the Kennel Club Field Trial Secretary, and she said, “Her Majesty was presented with a Kennel Club commissioned portrait of her two Field Trial Champion Cocker Spaniels, and we are delighted that Her Majesty’s own bred Cocker Spaniel won the event, making this her first gundog Championship win in any breed.” The good news is a nice change of pace these days for a monarch who could use a brighter year ahead after the familial drama that engulfed her in 2021.
