Royal Family News: Queen Gives Kate Middleton Prince Harry’s Former Patronages

British Royal family news reveals Prince Harry, Duke Of Sussex is currently based in Montecito California with his wife and two young children, after he and Meghan Markle stepped down from their duties as senior royals in early 2020. As he tries to transition to life as a normal working father, the royal family continues to adjust to life without him.

Recently, the Queen stripped Harry of his patronages and handed them over to his sister-in-law Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge.

The royal mom-of-three certainly has a lot on her plate as a working royal, having recently been assigned as the sponsor of HMS Glasgow: a new submarine in construction at BAE Systems, along with her other patronages. And now, according to reports, she’s receiving more from the Queen.

Kate Middleton will take on two of Prince Harry’s roles after he was stripped of the titles by Queen Elizabeth the II.

Prince Harry Loses Patronages To Kate Middleton

Prince Harry, an eager rugby fan, who also played the sport, represented the sport as vice-patron of the RFU from 2010 to 2016 before he took over from the Queen as patron.

He also received patronage of the RFL in 2016 from the 95-year-old monarch and carried out the draw for the upcoming World Cup in January 2020 at the height of the “Megxit” drama.

Ahead of the October League World Cup in England, the Duchess of Cambridge is now the patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League, per the news first shared by The Sunday Times. Hilariously, this means that whenever Wales and England clash in the Six Nations, the Cambridges will definitely feel the rivalry, as William holds the equivalent role at the Welsh Rugby Union.

The Duchess is well-versed in the many advantages of sports and indeed played tennis and hockey from a young age.

In addition to these new roles, Kate Middleton is already the patron of the All England Lawn and Tennis Croquet Club, the Lawn Tennis Association, SportsAid and the 1851 Trust, an organization that champions young people.

While Kate Middleton is a keen Tennis fan, she also reportedly planned weekends with William and her family around international rugby matches long before she married into the royal family.

The Sussexes Lose Their Royal Titles And Patronages After Leaving Royal Life Behind

Harry also lost his honorary military appointments, such as the Captain General of the Royal Marines. He took over the role from his grandfather Prince Philip, who held it for 64 years, in 2017.

Former actress Meghan’s patronage of the National Theater, gifted to her by the Queen who held it for 45 years, will also find a new and hopefully better home in another royal.

Following their exit, one of the deals was that they would drop HRH from their names, but it is still unlikely whether their “wedding gift” royal titles will also be taken away.

There are ongoing talks about who should receive Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s patronages, but The Times believe that the Princess Royal will certainly become the first female Captain General of the Royal Marines. It is valued as a good move to attract more female commandos as none of the 600 applicants last year were female.

It is also understood that Prince Philip had desired the role to be taken up by his only daughter, Princess Anne. The Princess Royal was further described as “very keen” to take on the role.

Anne’s current roles include patron of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity and Commodore-in-Chief, Portsmouth, while she is also patron of the Scottish Rugby Union.
