Her Majesty’s health has been the subject of speculation since late last year when she was hospitalized with an undisclosed ailment.
Royal Family News – The Palace Is Keeping Mum
Last October the news leaked that the monarch had spent the night in the hospital, and the palace then confirmed the news, leading some to criticize aides who seemingly would have kept the information to themselves.
Since then she has cancelled or amended royal visits and she has been seen walking with a cane. Speculation is rampant that she refuses to be seen in a wheelchair, and has had an elevator placed in her home.
Last week the public’s ire was raised when she attended Prince Philip’s memorial service with her son Andrew as her escort. She clearly needed some assistance, but the choice of the disgraced royal as her aide was heavily criticized.
Royal Family News – The Queen Was Criticized
Royal expert Camilla Tominey told The Telegraph: “The diary has become quite an agile piece of royal equipment in the sense that it’s up to the Queen in the morning what she can and can’t do…People are going to be coming to the Queen rather than her travelling to them.”
Last month it was reported that the Queen had decided to make Windsor Castle her permanent home: “The monarchy is changing before our very eyes and arguably that’s no bad thing. What we think is the Queen isn’t having health problems but mobility problems – she can’t stand for long periods or walk for long distances and therefore accommodations are being made,” said Tominey.
Royal Family News – The Queen Has Amended Her Calendar
The royal expert added, “I think the palace are handling this very much as they did when the Duke of Edinburgh retired and he was able to say which engagements he did or didn’t want to attend at very short notice.” The queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee in June, marking 70 years of service to country–certainly the queen has earned the right to ease up on her busy schedule.
