British Royal news reveals a Barbie doll created for Queen Elizabeth marking her Platinum Jubilee just sold out, three seconds after it was released.

The Monarch was immortalized in April, by toymaker Mattel, with a new Queen Elizabeth Barbie and it was sold out mere seconds after it went on sale. According to Daily Mail, a UK department store said that its stock of the GBP95 ($A168) Barbie was gone from the shelves in just three seconds. The $116 doll sold out quickly with a number of eBay sellers hoping to make to turn a good profit from reselling the dolls.

Platinum Jubilee Queen Barbies, which went on sale back in April, are now being hocked on eBay for more than $980. The toy manufacturer unveiled the limited-edition Barbie, in Her Majesty’s likeness, last month to commemorate her remarkable 70-year reign.

Royal Family News – What Queen Barbie’s Adornments Mean

The Barbie is fashioned after a portrait that was commissioned in 2012 to mark the Queen’s 60th year as Monarch. The doll envisions the Queen in an ivory gown and blue ribbon adorned with decorations of order.

The Monarch doll’s tiara is based on Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara worn by the Queen on her wedding day. The tiny medallions on the blue ribbon represent the Royal Family Orders. The doll also has a pink ribbon representing one gifted to the Queen by her father George VI, and one in light blue that was a gift from her grandfather George V.

A silver brooch that is pinned underneath the Barbie’s sash represents the Garter Star Brooch, the insignia of the Order of the Garter, which is the highest order of chivalry in the United Kingdom.

Royal Family News – Queen’s Upcoming Documentary

In other Royal Family News, never-seen footage of the Monarch throughout her life was recently released in anticipation of an upcoming documentary. The teaser clip for Elizabeth: The Unseen Queen was first broadcast on BBC Thursday, May 12.
