Royal Family News: Queen’s Savage View Of Sophie Wessex, Called Her What?!

QueenBritish royal family news reveals that Sophie, Countess of Wessex, has long been rumored to be Queen Elizabeth’s favorite daughter in law. But was it always that way? According to one royal expert, Her Majesty had a pithy point of view on Sophie after meeting her and before she and Prince Edward married. What is this all about? Let’s unpack the royal dish!

Royal Family News – Sophie is The Countess of Wessex

Prince Edward is Her Majesty’s youngest child. Richard Kay talked to the 2020 Channel 5 documentary, Edward & Sophie: The Reluctant Royals? and dished some juicy tidbits. According to him, “The Queen famously observed once — rather drily — of Sophie: ‘She wouldn’t stick out in a crowd.”

Is that such a bad thing? The royals have plenty of clan members who do stick out in a crowd and it always seems to end badly. Disgraced princes Andrew and Harry are prime examples. Earlier this month Andrew paid millions in an out of court settlement to a woman who accused him of sexual abuse.

Then there is Prince Harry, the runaway royal. He has seemingly made it his life’s work to trash his family—he has no other visible means of employment.

So it would seem that blending in would be a noble trait when it comes to the monarchy. Indeed, Kay went on to say of the queen’s comment that it was, “well meant.”

He added, “That might seem a rather cruel observation but in fact it was well meant and heartfelt.”

Julie Montagu is the Viscountess Hinchingbrooke and she echoed Kay’s sentiment: “The Queen does not like royal members to attract attention. So with Sophie, she saw that she definitely wasn’t attracting as much attention as other members of the Royal Family. I think the Queen really liked that.”

Royal Family News – Sophie Does Not Attract Much Attention

Sophie and Edward married in 1999 at St. George’s Chapel. In the beginning both royals kept up their non-royal work gigs. Sophie worked in public relations and Edward had his own production company.

Around 2002 they began to spend more time as royal representatives, in particular supporting the Queen in her Golden Jubilee year. Today they are revered as royals who don’t rock the boat and the queen recently sent Sophie on a solo trip to NYC. Sophie is now the royal patron of over 70 charities and Edward also represents the queen via his own charities.

This year is the queen’s Platinum Jubilee and the Earl and Countess of Wessex will no doubt be at the center of the celebrations in June.
