Lorraine asked royal expert Russell Myers, “We always said before ‘do you think any of them actually watch it?’ well we know that Fergie actually watches it, doesn’t she?” Myers replied, “We certainly do now. The smart money would definitely have been on Fergie. [She’s] no stranger to a bit of self-publicity.”

And yet despite Sarah’s love of the series, several royal watchers have called on Netflix to issue a disclaimer ahead of each episode, saying that not everything portrayed is true.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden in November said the show is, “a beautifully produced work of fiction” and so, as with other TV productions, “Netflix should be very clear at the beginning it is just that.”

He later told the Mail on Sunday, “Without this, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact.”

This season the show has taken an inside look at the affair between Prince Charles and Camilla, the now-Duchess of Cornwall, and depicts Princess Diana’s bulimia. Despite this, Princess Diana’s son Prince Harry has chosen to partner with Netflix as a producer.
