Parents the world over do the very same thing, but George is exceptional—he will one day be the UK’s monarch. And yet within his fishbowl existence his parents are trying the best they can to make his childhood as normal as possible. Nonetheless one day he will be king, and he already knows it.

Royal News: Prince George Turns 10

Prince George turns 10 birthday on July 22. No doubt he will indulge in the same summer vacation idylls as his peers—vacation with mom and dad, long lazy days with his siblings Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. But the young prince who will one day be king has already had The Talk with his parents.

No it’s not anything as mundane as the birds and the bees. Reportedly his parents have filled him in about his fate. According to royal expert Robert Lacey Kate and William “had a formal talk about his royal destiny in 2020.”

It will have been a similar talk to the one that his father, and future king, Prince William, had with his parents, King Charles and the late Diana.

People reports that the big day was a “controlled moment of their choice reflecting William’s unhappiness at the haphazard fashion in which the whole business of his royal destiny had buzzed around his head from the start.”

Royal Family News: Future King George

Children’s wear designer Amaia Arrieta has clothed George and his siblings for years. She told People of the situation: “I think George has known almost from the beginning.

He has always had a more prominent role — there have been many events with his late great-grandmother or great-grandfather when it was just him, and his siblings weren’t there. I think they must have had that conversation very early on.”

Royal Family News: Prince George Learning His Role

Prince William previously talked to the BBC about the moment the family will sit down with George to discuss his destiny: “There’ll be a time and place. Right now, it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing as much love as I can.”

Buttressing this admission, a royal source told People, “I am sure [William and Kate] are making George aware in the best way they can. And not making it too burdensome.”

Royal Family News: Kate and William Doing Right By George

Prince George has already stepped into the fringes of his future; most recently taking pride of place as one of King Charles’ Pages of Honor during the May coronation. At that time he carried the King’s robe at Westminster Abbey and took a prominent place on the Buckingham Palace balcony afterward.

He was the youngest future king to play an official coronation role but his parents knew he was ready and a close family friend said the boy “was terrific.”

Royal Family News: George’s Destiny

For now George is “getting firsthand experience of what it’s like to be a royal and a monarch and firsthand experience of being a normal boy.”

Crucial to the plan and its success is his mom, commoner Kate Middleton. As a source explains, because of Kate’s nonroyal “background she appreciates the importance of having family time. She wasn’t brought up in that aristocratic setting where you see the children for a short time each day.”
