British royal family news shows that Sophie Wessex is impressing folks with her down home charm and high profile visibility in the wake of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s defection. According to one royal expert Sophie is the monarch’s “favorite” family member and her recent solo trip to New York speaks to her increasing power within the clan.
Royal Family News – Who Is The Queen’s Favorite?
Royal watcher Russel Myers told True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat: “Are the Instagram generation going to be as obsessed with Sophie and Edward Wessex as they are with the Sussexes? Obviously not. However, when you’re dealing with them… Sophie’s really across her subject matter.”
“It’s not just for show and she has really grown into that. With the Sussexes not here, the Wessex’s will undoubtedly benefit.”
Royal Family News – Are Meghan And Sophie Similar?
The royal expert went on to not the similarities between the two women. “The similarities between Sophie and Meghan are there to be seen. Sophie’s working with girls’ education, she’s done a lot of stuff about violence against females in Africa.”
He made his comments after Sophie made a solo trip to America to represent the queen who has cancelled numerous engagements in recent months due to health issues.
While in NYC Sophie gave the keynote address at the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan event, as part of her four-day visit.
Royal Family News – Is Sophie’s Star Rising?
Sophie and her husband Edward are the Earl and Countess of Wessex. They live in Bagshot Park with their two children Lady Louise Windsor, 18, and James, Viscount Severn, 14. Later in the year the couple will tour Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines on behalf of the queen.

Royal Family News – The Queen’s Activities Are Curtailed
The Queen’s activities have been seriously curtailed due to multiple health issues which included an overnight hospital stay late last year. The exact reason for that visit was not given, but the queen is now walking with a cane and is said to have mobility issues. Last month it was announced she tested positive for Covid. Since then she has conducted mostly virtual royal events. In June she will celebrate her Platinum Jubilee in recognition of 70 years as monarch.
