British royal family news reveals that one royal watcher is predicting that the next decade will be a challenge for the United Kingdom Royal Family. Graham Smith is the CEO of Republic, and he thinks that the loss of three key family members means the monarchy will face hard times.

Republic is an organization that campaigns for the abolishment of the monarchy and for Queen Elizabeth II to be replaced by a democratic, elected head of state. Smith talked to Express.co.uk and noted that Prince Andrew, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle all stepping back from royal life will take a toll on The Firm.

He added that the prospect of the 94-year-old Queen dying at some point in the next 10 years will leave the monarchy virtually unrecognizable. It bears noting however that the queen’s husband, Prince Philip, is set to celebrate his 100th birthday next year.

“I think the monarchy has a difficult decade ahead,” said Smith. “They have lost three of their lead stars at the beginning of the year, Andrew has stepped back and will never come back to the front line.

“Meghan and Harry have left, the Queen is withdrawing more and more due to her age, and she is likely to die before the end of the decade. What you are left with is the only recognizable royals as Charles, William, and Kate.”

Graham Smith Of Republic Has Words Of Warning For The Royals

Smith went on to discuss how individual royal family members are perceived by the public. “Charles does not have the same warmth and support that others have and quite frankly William and Kate are rather dull uninspiring individuals that will always play second-fiddle to the next monarch.” Yes, but what does Graham really think?

Despite his boredom with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the public seems to be thrilled with Prince William and Kate Middleton, a scandal-free couple who project a wholesome and responsible image.

Graham’s point of view is biased of course as he wants to see the monarchy abolished. Perhaps this explains his statement: “It is all going to take a lot of shine off the monarchy and raise questions on why we have to put up with it.”

In contrast, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams offered up a differing point of view. “The Earl and Countess of Wessex also do extremely valuable work. The enormous popularity of the Queen and that of the monarchy was clear in the recent YouGov poll. It will again be evident when a grateful nation commemorates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in the summer of 2022.”
