Royal Family News: The Platinum Jubilee Pudding Contest Winner Revealed

British royal family news teases that this year the queen celebrates her Platinum Jubilee and she will have a brand new official dessert to mark the occasion. Because what is a Jubilee without a fantastic sweet treat to toast to?

A national competition was held to create a Platinum Pudding fit for royalty and that delectable dessert has been unveiled…the winner is, drumroll please, “Lemon Swiss Roll and Amaretti Trifle.”

This inspired delicacy was influenced by a bit of history, the Queen’s own wedding menu. The winner was one of more than 5,000 entrants and the lucky winner will have their concoction remembered for all time along with the Victoria Sponge and Coronation Chicken.

Who is the fabulous cook who created a masterpiece? It was created by Jemma Melvin, a 31-year-old copywriter and amateur (plus abundantly talented) baker from Southport, Merseyside. Jemma learned her craft at the elbow of her beloved grandmother.

She said the thought of having her pudding re-created for Jubilee Lunches in June, and being sold in royal food store Fortnum & Mason is an, “an absolute pleasure.”

Royal Family News – Jemma Melvin Created A Masterpiece

Jemma’s masterpiece was revealed in the BBC program, The Jubilee Pudding: 70 Years in the Baking. The whole idea behind the pudding is to commemorate the grand occasion of the monarch’s 70 years on the throne via an original cake, tart or pudding fit for a queen.

Who decided on the winning trifle? A trio of top notch bakers: Dame Mary Berry, Masterchef‘s Monica Galetti and Buckingham Palace Head Chef, Mark Flanagan. But perhaps the best part of the trifle is that it can now be made at home to celebrate the Jubilee.

Let’s get down to the mouth-watering basics royal fans. This dessert is made with lemon curd Swiss roll, St. Clement’s jelly, lemon custard, amaretti biscuits, mandarin coulis, fresh whipped cream, candied peel, chocolate bits and crushed amaretti biscuits. Is it any surprise that the verdict was unanimous?

Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall is Patron of The Big Jubilee Lunch, and she was a surprise special guest when the winning recipe was announced.
