Instead, it was his own father, King Charles, who believed that his eldest son could have done a little bit more work when it came to his royal engagements and public appearances. Here’s what you need to know.

According to Prince Harry’s new memoir, Spare, it was their father Charles who branded William “lazy” for not doing enough work alongside his wife, Kate Middleton. And before anyone knew it, the media began reporting about ‘Work-shy Wills’ and how he’d rather muddle at home than go mingle with the public.

Harry wrote in his book, “The papers were awash with stories about Willy being lazy, and the press had taken to calling him ‘Work-shy Wills,’ which was obscene, grossly unfair, because he was busy having children and raising a family. (Kate was pregnant again.)”

If that weren’t enough, the Duke of Sussex then put the blame on their father for not doing enough to put William and himself more in the spotlight.

It seemed like it was King Charles who wanted to get the most attention as a royal, but wasn’t willing to share any of that attention with even his sons. It almost seems like Charles wanted his sons to work but he just didn’t want to see them in the headlines for it.

Harry continued, “Also, he was still beholden to Pa, who controlled the purse strings. He did as much as Pa wanted him to do, and sometimes that wasn’t much, because Pa and Camilla didn’t want Willy and Kate getting loads of publicity.”

So far Buckingham Palace has not made any comments about the matter, although at this point it’s doubtful than anything will be said.
