British royal family news reveals that Prince Philip, the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II, was operated on yesterday, Buckingham Palace said in a statement Thursday. He underwent a medical procedure for a preexisting heart condition.
The Palace statement read: “The Duke of Edinburgh yesterday underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. His Royal Highness will remain in hospital for treatment, rest and recuperation for a number of days.”
Royal Family News – Prince Philip Underwent Heart Surgery
On February 16 Prince Philip was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London, “after feeling unwell.” The Palace did not initially announce a cause for his admittance but later confirmed he was being treated for an infection.
This Monday he was transferred to London’s St. Bartholomew’s Hospital where he continued to be treated for the infection and the Palace said that he would now receive testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition.
St. Bartholomew’s is a cardiac treatment center, one of the largest such facilities in the world.
Royal Family News – Camilla Updated Prince Philip’s Condition
There had been no word of Philips’s progress until Wednesday when Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, said that Philip’s condition was “slightly improving” after his transfer, although he was hurting “at moments.”
“We keep our fingers crossed,” Camilla added of her father-in-law.
Both Philip and the Queen have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, in a move that was publicized at the time, an unusual PR move meant to allay fears of the shot and encourage the populace to receive theirs.
Royal Family News – Prince Philip Had Received A Covid Shot
The couple isolated together spent most of 2020 at Windsor Castle, having moved away from Buckingham Palace during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in spring 2020. At that time their son Prince Charles contracted the virus and it has been reported that Prince William also contracted the virus, although this has not been confirmed nor denied by the palace.
The prince retired from public life and royal duties in 2017. In recent years he had been hospitalized several times, the last being in December 2019, when he received hospital treatment for a pre-existing condition.
At the same time, drama is swirling around Philip’s grandson and his wife Meghan Markle over a March 7 tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey on CBS at 8 pm in which they aim to air dirty laundry and perhaps shame the royal family.
