The famed college was founded in 1413 by the Augustinian clergy and it is the third oldest university in the English-speaking world. Despite all of its storied history, today the school is mostly known among royal fans as the place where William met Kate.
The grounds have been called a place where student life is, “a dry run for future social circles.” Besides Prince William, several other notables have inhabited the halls including Lara Johnson-Wheeler the daughter of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Princess Anne de Croÿ-Solre, and James Ogilvy, the son of Princess Alexandra of Kent.

While she was at St. Andrew’s, Kate Middleton, who is now the Duchess of Cambridge, majored in the school’s popular Art History program.
The school’s motto is, “Ever to Excel,” a phrase borrowed from the Iliad. On a bit of a more debauched note, Prince William once cracked of the school, “It’s often said by the undergraduates of St. Andrews that you leave the university in either one of two states: either married or an alcoholic.”
“Fortunately for Catherine and me, we ended up married.” That’s not entirely accurate as the two married after graduation, but still, he’s right, their fate is better than alcoholism.
