British royal family news teases that that the UK’s royal family is a headline staple around the world. Same with the Spanish crown, and the royals in Monaco. Other dynasties do not get the same level of attention, with the 1,000-year-old Bhanja dynasty of India one of them.

Princess Akshita of Mayurbhanj is the daughter of the 47th ruler of the dynasty and she is the great-granddaughter of the late King Tribhuvan of Nepal. Akshita and her sister Princess Mrinalika run Belgadia Palace in their home state of Odisha, India. She also has a job in the private sector working for an Artificial Intelligence group and manages to find time to raise awareness about conservation issues.

She recently talked to Insider about the UK’s royal runaways, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and gave her take on their defection from the monarchy. Would she ever do the same? Keep reading to find out what Akshita thinks of her royal life.

Royal Family News – Princess Akshita Speaks Out

Akshita’s royal family lost their official titles, “when India gained independence in 1947.” She thinks this is a good thing as, “I hit jackpot choosing this family to be born in. I never felt I had to be someone different or someone else to portray a certain image.”

She has no pressure to live up to a royal standard and yet uses her notoriety to perform humanitarian work. “Her March 2021 tweets about fires in Similipal National Park, a reserve in Odisha home to tigers, helped direct public attention to the issue , the Hindustan Times reported at the time.”

In 2016, “She was also able to study at New York City’s Bard College and returned in 2016 with ideas of how to improve her community while carrying on the family legacy.”

Akshita said, “When my parents sent me abroad for education, they wanted me to understand the traditions and come back to be a leader in these communities, but also understand times have changed. She added that her ancestry and upbringing gave her a sense of gratitude for, “the life she lives so she could never forget the position she has.”

Still, she admits that leaving royal life can be, “much easier,” than staying. She says that in India, “there are very few families who still live in their palaces or in their home countries because it’s much easier to leave. It’s harder to stay back and be like ‘Who am I,’ when you don’t have the crown and the money and the palaces and the retinue of staff.”

But she does understand why Prince Harry left royal life behind. “I think about what it’s like to pretend to be something you’re not,” she said, referencing Imposter Syndrome. “For them, it got harder and harder.” Harry has complained he felt like a zoo animal despite living off the public’s dime and enjoying a life of privilege to the point that he had no idea how to make a bed until the Army taught him.
