Royal Family News Will Kate Middleton Be Queen One Day?
When William becomes next in line to the throne, his title will automatically change to Prince of Wales. It is the title held by those first in line and it was inherited by his father Prince Charles 50 years ago.
In line with this reasoning, when Charles married the late Diana Spencer she automatically became the Princess of Wales.
When Prince Charles becomes king, Prince William will take over as the Prince of Wales and Kate may or may not become the Princess of Wales. There is precedent for her not taking the title because Charles’ second wife Camilla declined the title out of respect for Diana.
