Royal Family News – Princes Report Marking Anniversary Privately And Separately
Royal Family news reveals that the news that Prince Harry and Prince William would not be issuing any sort of joint statement to mark the anniversary of their mother Diana’s death, Wednesday, was no surprise, per the Daily Beast. Considering the acerbic state of their relationship, no one likely expected them to come together, even for this day.
The Telegraph also reports that the two princes who were once as close as twins, finishing one another’s sentences, and planning lifelong charitable projects together, will be marking the anniversary of Diana’s death “privately and separately.”
Will The Princes Ever Commemorate Diana Together Again?
Royal watchers will recall that the two brothers did come together on the 20th anniversary of their mother’s death, giving interviews for TV documentaries, and even commissioning a statue of Diana which now stands at Kensington Gardens.
Unfortunately, by the time the statue was unveiled, the brother’s relationship has gone south so far as to cause that commissioning to ultimately symbolize all that had gone wrong between the two brothers who were once so close. The Duke of Cambridge had even said, at the time, that the two brothers would not publicly commemorate their mother again.
Prince’s Silence – Louder than Words
We can expect the two brothers, therefore, to keep that informal pledge this year as well. However, the rise and influence of social media in the years since the stature’s unveiling, five years ago, means that the hole that will be left by the brother’s reluctance and subsequent silence will likely speak louder than words.
William and Harry were 15 and 13, respectively, when their mother Princess Diana was killed that day on August 31, 1997. Spokespeople for the brothers separately confirmed that this year’s anniversary will be spent privately.
Prince Harry To Focus On His Mother
Speaking at a fundraiser for his charity Sentebale, Harry mentioned the anniversary, saying “I want it to be a day filled with memories of her incredible work and love for the way she did it. I want it to be a day to share the spirit of my mum with my family, with my children, who I wish could have met her. Every day, I hope to do her proud.”
