The Queen’s wedding ring has sentimental value as it was given to her after it was gifted to her parents for their wedding in 1923. This is the ring that set off a grand royal tradition, with subsequent rings being made from Welsh gold from the Clogau St. David’s gold mine.

It is thought that the Queen’s private jewelry collection number around 300 pieces. The inventory is said to include, “98 brooches, 34 pairs of earrings and 15 rings. When not worn by the monarch, they were stored in the Queen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace.”

In addition the monarchy also has the official Crown Jewels. These, “are held in the Tower of London. Dating back to the 17th-century, the collection includes more than 23,000 diamonds, sapphires and rubies.”

Royal Family News – The Queen Will Be Buried Monday

Today the Queen’s coffin was taken from Edinburgh’s St. Giles Cathedral and flown to RAF Northolt; later it will be driven to Buckingham Palace. While her coffin was in Scotland, thousands of mourners came to pay their respects to the head of state. A state funeral will take place in Westminster Abbey next Monday.

Levinson said, “Her Majesty is an incredibly humble woman at heart who is unlikely to be dressed in anything but her simple Welsh gold wedding band to rest and a pair of pearl earrings.” She added, that it is unlikely for many jewels to be buried with her, “because the Her Majesty’s life has always been about the legacy of the royal family, in the UK and Commonwealth … Her jewels form very much part of that legacy.”

When the Queen lies in state, her coffin will be draped with the Royal Standard and accompanied by the Imperial State Crown, which holds almost 3,000 precious gems, including sapphires, emeralds and rubies.

What a waste! Take it apart and donate the jewels to charity. It would be an indulgent, vulgar show of wealth and privilege, especially when people are struggling financially and could do without paying taxes for people wealthy enough to throw their wealth in a coffin. Donate it to the NHS, perhaps then heart attack patients would have to wait 5 hours for an ambulance and hours and even days to get a hospital bed and see a consultant. The Queen has taken with her the love and gratitude of her people, thats worth more than that crown.
