Sarah Ferguson – Quotes Queen During Tribute To Late Friend Lisa Marie Presley
“Grief is the price we pay for love” – the Queen said it and Sarah Ferguson agrees.
“I stand here with great honor because we called each other ‘sissy,’ and I’ve been with you all for all your lives really,” the Duchess of York said during the memorial service held at the late actress’ childhood Graceland home. “Sissy, this is for you with affection. My late mother-in-law used to say that nothing [that] can be said can begin to take away the anguish and the pain of these moments, because grief is the price we pay for love. And how right she was.”
Sarah Ferguson is not the only notable figure to use the Queen’s popular words to describe the grief of losing loved ones, as world leaders and other royals have often found it necessary to use the quote.
Prince William also notably used the quote to describe the pain he felt at the passing of his world-wide famous grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth the II, on September 8, 2022.
In her message, Ferguson also promised to be available to Presley’s three daughters if ever and whenever they need her. “I stand here with great honor because we called each other ‘sissy,’ and I’ve been with you all for all your lives really,” the Duchess of York said. “Sissy, this is for you with affection. My late mother-in-law used to say that nothing [that] can be said can begin to take away the anguish and the pain of these moments, because grief is the price we pay for love. And how right she was.”
In her eulogy at the Graceland memorial on Jan. 23, she further read a heartwarming poem by George Frost titled, “A Tribute to Their Children.”
Others who spoke during the memorial include Priscilla Presley, her eldest daughter Riley Keough, Jerry Schilling (Presley’s talent manager), Alanis Morissette, Axl Rose, and Joel Weinshanker.
