Sarah Ferguson was and continues to be a huge fan of her late sister-in-law Princess Diana and the great and beautiful legacy she left behind.
In a truly touching statement, the Duchess of York honored one of Princess Diana’s greatest legacies: The Diana Award, which was established in 1999 two years after her death. It also happens to be the only charity she inspired that carries her name.

The Diana Awards is still going strong nearly three decades after it was established to promote the Princess’s “belief that young people have the power to change the world.”
In a truly touching move, Sarah Ferguson has decided to align herself with the charity’s cause and help to bring it a new generation of people and perhaps even grow it beyond what it already is. She shared the good news with a snap featuring her and Dr. Tessy Ojo, CEO of the Diana Award.
She explained in the caption that she’s just coming from “a very special meeting” with Ojo “discussing the incredible work of The @DianaAward in supporting and empowering young people across the world, as well as how I can help to ensure that this vital work continues.”
“As a much loved sister-in-law and dear friend, Diana’s unwavering commitment and dedication to young people was truly inspiring and it was deeply moving to see her legacy of compassion and kindness carried forward through the remarkable work of The Diana Award,” she continued. “I really am honoured to continue supporting their efforts in her name.”
Ojo shared her enthusiasm on the post, writing, “Excited for the future Sarah Ferguson and Diana award.”
A little known fact about Diana and Sarah was that the pair had known each other even before marrying the royal brothers, Charles and Andrew. According to Sarah, they had known each other since girlhood, “when she was 14 and I was 15.”
