Queen Elizabeth the II reigned for 70 years and championed a Commonwealth that represented equality. But with her death came the questions regarding how beneficial the monarchy is to the people of the UK. Well, the Scots have spoken and they have chosen to recognize King Charles the III as their new King.

Scots Want To Retain King Charles In An Independent Scotland

According to a new poll, Scots believe it’ll be beneficial to retain the Monarchy, even if they do become an independent nation with an elected leader.

A recent YouGov poll published by The Times shows that voters are split in the middle about retaining King Charles as their monarch, while 34 percent are all for an elected head of state.

The survey then said that the poll could have a different result if the constitutional arrangements were to change with Scottish independence.

In a category driven by SNP voters – 60 percent of whom would back an elected head of a new state – there was still an even split in the number of people who view the monarchy positively.

In an independent Scotland, 41 percent of the general public would prefer to keep the monarchy, 40 percent would have done with it and 19 percent are unsure.

SNP policy is meant to keep the monarchy even if Scotland does become independent. Following the Queen’s death, senior figures decided to give their pledge again.

37 percent of people believe the Royal Family are good for Scotland, 32 percent thought it made little difference either way, and 23 percent said that the royals aren’t good for the nation.

In general, the new YouGov poll found out that the monarchy enjoys 43 percent of people’s support, 27 percent decided to stay neutral, while 21 percent thought that the monarchy isn’t driving the country forward.

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets last month to catch a glimpse of the Queen’s coffin as it was transported from Balmoral to Edinburgh after her death.

At the time, a whopping 83 percent said that the Queen’s reign was beneficial to the country, with only 7 percent convinced that her time on the throne didn’t yield any positive results, whereas 8 percent declared that they’re unsure.

When it comes to Charles’ reign, this massive favorable reaction people had for the Queen dropped. Fifty-eight percent still believe his reign will be good for Britain, while 21 percent said he would perform badly and 20 percent were unsure.
