Shocker: Meghan Markle Related To WHAT ‘Prestigious’ British Playwright?

Apparently, Meghan Markle should never have asked, “To be or not to be,” but rather “To whom am I related?” That’s because new information brought to light by the genealogy website, “MyHeritage” showed that Meghan is actually a blood relative of William Shakespeare! Before fans of theater and of Meghan Markle begin celebrations, however, it’s worth noting that her connection to the English playwright, poet, and actor is tenuous at best.

Indeed, Aaron Godfrey, the representative for MyHeritage, noted that Meghan is actually a fifth cousin of Shakespeare 13 times removed. Doria Ragland, who is Meghan’s mother, passed this connection down to her according to reports. Mr. Godfrey went on to gush, “When we heard the wonderful news about Harry and Meghan’s engagement, we wanted to help Meghan discover some English roots of her own. I’m sure she will be delighted to know that she comes from such prestigious British stock.”

Well, some fans are saying Mr. Godfrey might not have wanted to reveal this information to Meghan Markle considering her new take on social justice and the need for the Commonwealth nations to acknowledge their shared uncomfortable past. After all, some wonder if Meghan knows that while Shakespeare is still considered England’s “national poet” and “The Bard of Avon,” he is also thought to have harbored anti-Semitic beliefs.

Indeed, Meghan Markle might be loath to learn that the Smithsonian Magazine wrote of her relative that, “The Merchant of Venice, with its celebrated and moving passages, remains one of Shakespeare’s most beautiful plays. Depending on whom you ask, it also remains one of his most repulsive. ‘One would have to be blind, deaf and dumb not to recognize that Shakespeare’s grand, equivocal comedy … is nevertheless a profoundly anti-Semitic work.’”

Clearly then, Meghan might be happy to learn that MyHeritage found that she was also related to British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill! This time, however, Meghan is related to the famous Briton through her father, Thomas Markle’s family.

Here too though, some would like to cast shade on the dubious honor Meghan has of being a blood relation of Winston Churchill. This is because even more, perhaps, than Shakespeare … Churchill was historically quoted saying some rather questionable things about other ethnicities than his own. For example, Meghan might be so happy to be related to a man, who said of black people that he “did not really think that black people were as capable or as efficient as white people.”

The truth is though, that both Winston Churchill and William Shakespeare lived in times far different than 2020 and Meghan might be comforted in that knowledge. Moreover, Meghan Markle can hardly be alone in having to acknowledge that this or that ancestor may have had aspects of their lives that are unpalatable by today’s standards. Additionally, it can be argued rationally that this is true no matter what ethnicity you happen to be.

What’s more likely to be the case though, is that Meghan will find all this information interesting … and then file it away in the dustbin of her memory because, well … it just doesn’t matter.
