Should Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Security Be Paid By The Palace If Prince Andrew’s Is?

Meghan MarkleSecurity for the royals has been a sticking point as of late, brought on by circumstances wrought by the royals themselves.

There is the matter of Megxit in which Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from royal life and the case of Prince Andrew who has been mothballed following very public PR disasters. This has led some to chime in on who should get what in terms of security protection.

The issue was made more prominent when it was reported that Queen Elizabeth intervened to stop her son, the Duke of York, from being stripped of his publicly funded security.

Should Meghan Markle Be stripped Of Protection While Prince Andrew Gets To Keep His?

Canadian presenter Elaine Lui told Newsweek that she considers The Firm’s alleged security stance to be inconsistent.

According to Newsweek, “Lui moved in the same circles as the Duchess of Sussex, before she became a royal, and works with Ben Mulroney, husband to Meghan’s best friend Jessica Mulroney.”

Lui is referring to a report in January in which the Evening Standard stated a review was being made as to whether Andrew should continue to have, “round-the-clock armed protection.”

At that time one source told the newspaper that police, “cannot write a blank check for anyone who does not have a public role.”

According to Lui, “If you take away from the one dude, then fine take away from Meghan and Harry. But right now it just doesn’t seem consistent.”

In June The Sun reported that the queen intervened to request that Andrew continue to be guarded by the U.K.’s Metropolitan Police.

A Source With Ties To Meghan Markle Thinks She Should Have Royal Protection

Lui told Newsweek, “Prince Andrew is not my favorite royal. But I actually understand the rationale behind having to keep him safe. He is tremendously unpopular right now. This means that he is at a higher risk and there’s already a baseline level of risk for members of the royal family. No matter how I feel about him, and disagree with his personal decision, I don’t want to see any physical harm befall him.”

“Putting that right there, I think the same argument should apply for Harry and Meghan. They should have protection in the sense they are technically still members of the royal family. Harry is the son of the future monarch.”

“Even though they are not living in the U.K. and they chose to leave public duty, or they were compelled to, I do think that if there is a justification for Prince Andrew to be protected then there should be a justification for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.”

Providing security for certain royals has been a contentious issue, as well as an astronomical cost, which does not appear to be going away anytime soon.
