Royal Editor Chris Ship told ITV’s Royal Rota that Sophie reached a significant milestone recently and it signaled a key shift in how the palace views her. He is referring to an event in which Sophie Wessex was on her own, an event that individuals like himself were invited to by Buckingham Palace.

According to him this occasion was a sea change in the royal hierarchy and shows that Sophie Wessex is being counted on to fill the gaping hole in left by Harry and Meghan.

Ship added, “We don’t often cover the Countess of Wessex’s engagements on her own. It’s the only time I’ve covered Sophie on her own in the three years I’ve had this job.”

To this question, ITV royal producer Lizzie Robinson replied, “There is a space left by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as working members of the royal family.
