The globetrotting, publicity-shy couple were quick to respond to Trump’s Sunday tweet in which he said, “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!”
Harry and Meghan must pay for their own protection while in the U.S.
It is believed that the couple are now in Southern California after leaving Canada, after leaving the UK, after declaring their desire to be ordinary independent folk.
Trump’s declaration comes in the midst of a costly national coronavirus pandemic response, and after the Canadian government issued much the same words, if a bit less bellicose, to the couple who wished to shed their royal responsibilities but their keep their royal entitlements.
In response to the President’s warm welcome, a spokesperson for the couple said they, “had no plans to ask the US,” before adding that, “privately funded security arrangements have been made.”
So, after the dust settles on this tit for tat, you may be wondering who actually is or isn’t responsible for protecting the couple and their son Archie.
Who is on the hook for non-royal protection?
According to a royal source, Trump has the last word over whether they can have US-funded diplomatic protection in the states because Harry will no longer be categorized as an “international protected person,” after March 31, a day that will live in infamy as Megxit.
Apparently the British Metropolitan Police are still on the hook for the non-royal couple’s very royal security detail, and it has been understood that Scotland Yard will provide the couple with their very own set of protection officers while they are in America.
The couple’s spokesperson did not expand upon what, or who, they meant by, “privately funded security arrangements.”
What is known is that their decision to leave Canada and come to California occurred not long after the Canadian authorities refused to contribute to their security costs after March 31.
Hell no, they want to be commoners, let them be commoners!
They snuck out of Canada without even a small Thank You. I hope we don’t let them back in but our Prime Minister is an idiot so who knows.
