The Duchess of Cornwall Has “Embraced Feminism”

The Duchess of Cornwall Has “Embraced Feminism” Even Though It's Become A “Dirty Word” Camilla Parker Bowles has truly come a long way from the days she was ridiculed as mistress and tagged as a “home wrecker”. Instead of letting the criticisms get to the Duchess of Cornwall, she has continued to champion causes that matter most to women. For years, she has fought for the rights of women and addressed both rape and domestic violence, topics that most tend to shy away from.

Camilla’s Strong Sense To Protect Women Continues To Put Her Apart From Other Royal Women

When it comes to the royal that’s deeply invested in women liberation, there’s no better candidate than Duchess Camilla.

Delving into what are basically “taboo” topics, Camilla has continued to support victims of male violence. This has allowed her to meet several survivors of domestic violence.

Julie Bindel’s piece on the Duchess, 75, explored how the royal continues to use her royal platform to advocate for women’s rights. “Over the years, Camilla has rejected unofficial royal protocol and delved into what some might describe as controversial or even taboo subjects. She has spoken of rape and sexual assault and the need for better support for survivors.”

Camilla has also fought to make sure that rape victims that have just undergone a forensic examination are provided with a special wash bag containing toiletries to use during the post-examination shower.

These wash bags – which typically contain shampoo, moisturizer, a hairbrush, and other essentials – are meant to help improve the lives of the victims, who will no doubt be in distress, and to raise awareness for the problem.

Camilla Won’t Tolerate “A Wrong Word” From Husband Prince Charles

Camilla would rather that no woman should ever endure a violent man, and as she continues to point out, victims of domestic violence are disproportionately women. Not only is she acknowledging the problem, but she’s “wholeheartedly” involved in providing the solution.

“She definitely seems to like women and is not a man fan. One of my favorite stories about her is that instead of following royal protocol and calling Charles “Sir” when they were introduced in 1971, she said, “My great-great-grandmother and your great-great-grandfather were lovers. How about?”

“Despite the fact that feminism has become a dirty word lately, the Duchess of Cornwall has embraced it. Hopefully this means that other women will follow her example. She once said that the part of her royal role she enjoys the most is advocating for unsung women: “I meet so many women that I find totally inspiring. Those are the stories I like to hear. People who started out with no confidence and made a name for themselves in the world and raised the flag for women.”

“I have a feeling the Duchess of Cornwall would not take a wrong word from Prince Charles or any other man.”

Bindel went on to call her the “opposite of a submissive royal woman”, adding that she passionately cares about “vulnerable people”.

“When she speaks about her commitment to ending violence against women and girls, her words resonate with society, reaching both the aristocracy and social workers. To me, a lifelong feminist activist, we might as well give up if we don’t care about the women at the bottom.

“Camilla, for all her privileges, has decided that the women of most need and vulnerability will be her priority. That, to me, is a true champion of women’s liberation.”
