The Queen is currently vacationing at Balmoral Castle, where several members of the Royal Family have joined her.
Buckingham Palace Confirms Queen Elizabeth Will Hold Audience With Incoming Prime Minister
The Queen traditionally spends her summer holidays at her Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle – believed to be her favorite – from July to mid-September before returning to resume her royal duties. The residence has ample space for horse riding and has enough rooms to allow the little ones to enjoy various summer activities.
It has long been a tradition for members of the Royal Family to visit the 96-year-old at the £140 million property, where the Queen spends three months.
However, she will be rounding up her vacation within the next three weeks following the confirmation that she will be leaving earlier than usual this year in order to welcome the new Prime Minister.
Queen Elizabeth will be in London by September when the winner of the Conservative leadership race is due to be announced. Buckingham Palace is said to be the most likely place for the private meeting to take place.
She could also choose to host the ceremony – historically known as “kissing hands” – at her permanent resident as of March 2022.
Why Can’t the New Prime Minister Travel To Meet the Queen?
We know it’ll be easier for the new PM to travel to hold the private meeting with Her Majesty and save the elderly royal the 800-mile journey. But we know the Queen has continued to be a staunch worker, and she has decided to continue with the tradition, rather than choosing an easier route.
She’s also not a stranger to the formalities, having welcomed 14 Prime Ministers over the course of her 70-year reign, with Boris Johnson the latest to request to form a government.
